Ta-da! The book with the most votes for February is Strange Weather in Tokyo. Tickets for February’s book club session will be available via Eventbrite later this week. Before purchasing or borrowing the book, I thought that this spoiler-free overview or spoiler-free podcast episode (13 minutes) could help you decide if it is for you, or not. Strange Weather in Tokyo was closely followed by Lara’s suggestion, In The Dream House, which we will read together in March.
Our new home will be Cave Woman Wines on rue du Chemin Vert. When looking for a space, it was important to find somewhere that shared our values. When I reached out to Alison, everything just felt right. She was so welcoming and positive, the wine selection is tip-top, and it is nice to support other women. We can be up to 12 people per session: depending on the book, we are sometimes less than that. But I have a solution for those months where everyone wants to sign up - stay tuned.
January Book Club Wrap-Up
Book club got off to a strong start - and that is thanks to you. We had much to say about Happening by Annie Ernaux, at both the in-person and online sessions, and I really appreciated being a part of these discussions. I have faith that we will continue to read Annie, and to continue fighting for abortion rights, both individually and collectively,. To close this particular chapter, I leave you with one of my favourite quotes from the book:

Manu, who some of you will know from book club, told me about this author event. IT IS ONLY BERNARDINE EVARISTO! Run, don’t walk, etc.
If translated Korean literature is up your street, you may enjoy this Electric Lit article featuring the one and only Anton Hur (he bounces off of the screen), Sandy Joosun Lee and Sung Ryu.
So many podcasts, so little time, right? But I’m really enjoying Nothing is Foreign. Episodes are around 30 minutes, I like the presenter, and it feels like a manageable way to digest news from around the world.
One that I have personally bookmarked to read this weekend: Please Don’t Call my Cervix Incompetent from The Atlantic. (Spotted via Ewa’s Stories, who some of you may also know from online book club).
Thanks for reading, see you next week. Lou xx
